In the Devi Mahatmya (chapter 2), Vishwakarma, the craftsman of the gods, gives Durga an axe, along with other weapons and armour, for her fight with Mahishasura. Our parashu takes its shape from the most famous axe of all, the one Parashurama carries.
A crescent blade with a back spike. Silver and gold with red detail, rounded and double-sided.
