Kushmanda Keychain · Navratri Night 4

Kushmanda is the fourth of the nine forms of Durga: the devi who smiled and the universe appeared. Her name is often read as "a little warmth" and "the cosmic egg", and kushmanda is also the ash gourd, her traditional offering. She is said to live at the heart of the Sun. She is worshipped on the fourth night of Navratri, and this is our keychain for that night.

She has eight arms. Her hands hold a bow and arrow, a chakra, a gada, a lotus, a japa mala and two sacred pots, one in each front hand, as her verse describes. A sun glow shines behind her head, her lion lies at her feet with an ash gourd on his back, and her sari is royal blue, the colour of night four of Navratri 2026.

She is part of our Navadurga series: one devi for each night of Navratri.
